A must for your Samsung

I have a best friend. I have had it for quite some time though and now it and I are one. It is my Samsung S3. If you have a similar device from Samsung, like the epic Galaxy Note 2, here is a great tip for connecting to your computer.

Image

1. Download Kies from Samsung. A programme which syncronizes everything on your phone with your computer, EVERYTHING. From photos and contacts to bookmarks from your browser. I also use Kies for text messages where I have put Kies on the Quick Start Menu and it plays a notification sound with a popup when I get a text and enables me to answer it via my computer.

2. Download Kies Air from Google Playstore. Kies Air is a application that enables you to easily manage contents saved on your device via PC internet or mobile browser using Wi-Fi technology. NO CABLES, I love it!

3. Open Kies on your computer.

4. Open Kies Air on your phone and push START.

5. Kies Air on the mobile device will display a URL. Enter the URL in the browser on the PC or laptop

6. Kies Air will display a 4-digit PIN on the mobile device. When prompted, enter the PIN into the browser on the PC or laptop.

7. Enjoy.

This is from my experience the most flawlessly program so far for connecting a smartphone to the computer. It simply works.

Inception

I just saw the film, Inception. The one with Leonardo DiCaprio. Everybody I talked with about the film who had seen it, rated it as one of the best movies they have seen. The idea seemed intriguing enough;  “exploring the idea of people sharing a dream space — entering a dream space and sharing a dream. That gives you the ability to access somebody’s unconscious mind. What would that be used and abused for?”

Well, after I have seen it I`m not that convinced really. The idea is great but I sat during the movie and felt constantly that they could have done so much more. The makers instead tried to fill the movie up with too much irrelevant stuff, even the action sequences began to be a bit much. And the movie was too long – or seemed too long. They were exploring ways to make more than one movies in one, instead of exploring the various opportunities that Nolan came up with for the script.

I guess I have to agree with A.O. Scott’s review for The New York Times, where he wrote, “But though there is a lot to see in Inception, there is nothing that counts as genuine vision. Mr. Nolan’s idea of the mind is too literal, too logical, too rule-bound to allow the full measure of madness”.

I enjoyed the ending which correlated with the beginning, very “DiCaprio-like” I guess. But if you want to wrap your head around another one like this, but with a twist you should really check out Dogtooth.

Mercedes Benz

My brother and I are both Mercedes-enthusiasts, as is our uncle and grandfather. Our dad used to be, but that was a long time ago. Still I remember the car our father drove me and my brother around in. Something similar to that in the picture below, even similar color.

I remember the cassettes from that car, Huey Lewis as well as Creedence Clearwater and John Fogerty. I remember the smell, the classic steering wheel, leather seats and the speedometer.

To boost our enthusiasm me and my brother shared several videos from youtube over the chat the other day. Two of my favorites follow underneath.

And let us not forget this one, it is a classic!

Joined as a photographer

Joined www.freelancer.com just now to see what it is like. Lately I have been looking into making my hobbies more serious, like this blog and my photography.

So I have enlisted as a person who can write articles about many things – like travel, reviews about stuff and take good photos. Now I must finish the work on my website, http://www.shuuza.com so people can view my photos on a real presentable portfolio – looking forward to it.

Someone who reads this that has any experience with sites like? I would very much like to hear from you. I guess for the first projects I need to price myself a bit lower than the “pros” – but I have to to get my foot inside I guess.

So, are anyone looking to hire some pixels? I have made my website, http://www.onesiteonly.com a place where companies can hire pixels for a month – or longer, for their adverts or banners. Tell me what you think – I got the idea from similar pages, only they are sold out – and I can offer cheaper pixels – and also flexibility! I believe it is a great idea. Let me know what you think, I can take it. :)

Spotify in the USA

Last year there were some rumors about Spotify opening up their service in the USA. Now it looks like it is dragging out a bit. Mostly due to record companies over-there being skeptic over how Spotify is going to make enough money. Most of them demands that every tenth user of Spotify should be a premium customer. Being a premium customer is around 17 bucks a month. If you choose the free version, you get ads between songs.  I am a premium user and don`t regret it at all, and I believe that there will be many more than 10 percent of the users as premium users in near future. Being a premium not only gives you ad-free environment, but greater speed, more functions and a better search engine tool as well.

Spotify is, as they say themselves, a new way to enjoy music. It`s online and the quality is very good, the speed is great. You can share songs between users with the help of HTML-links, which works very well with playlists too.

On these sites, Wired and The Venezian Journal you can check out more about ways around how to use Spotify in the USA. And if you need invites, I have some you can have. Just leave a comment under and I will mail you one.

For further reading on this subject, I recommend this article by Wayne Rosso in The Music Void.

Positive or negative?

The premise that our society  is different from what it would have been without the computer revolution is generally accepted. Is our society better than it would have been without the revolution? Is our society worse? Would your answer differ if your position in society were different?

I assume if you read this that if you read this you are comfortable using computers and internet. Still today there are many among us who make a point out of not participating in areas where computers and technology are used. I have experienced that mostly among people in their 40+ when I am at work doing an introduction classes in computers and new technological applications. Even met those in my own age group which try to avoid new technology, and that is just ignorance. Most people are positive but some are negative.  Are people negative because they have had a negative experience with IT or is it that they have never used it before and are sceptical? Most people I have dealt with are negative because they are sceptical to changes that may come – they instantly think what changes I have to do when this new technology enters my workplace. Others are positive because they see how this will improve their daily routines and how it can make them more effective and make things easier.

I think there is a lot of work to be done on how the new technology is presented to the future users.  They must not get the feeling that this is something they have to do – or like this is something shoveled upon them. Users must be integrated in the intial processes and asked how they want their new technology to be. I see that this can be a very effective way of involving more people and making them more positive.

I think the question wether our society is better or worse because of the computer revolution is very hypthetical. I believe we have come better out of it, not worse. What is the substitute have the computers not been here – or to this extent? I can`t think of anything, and it seems as the computers were destined to be here. People certainly embraced the computeres and still do. I think we still are on the plus-side when it comes to better or worse.

But can you control the speed and direction of the technology – and why would someone want to do that. I think the research on important aspects and areas are going slow – think of how long it takes  for engineers to think out how to make the first driverless cars. But how short period of time it takes for Sony to “develop” a wireless control to PS3? I think technology is at its best when it does something to improve our society like more efficient cars, high-speed trains and faster computers. People could get the wrong idea of the propulsion of our technological leaps because of the way the game industry unleashes “new” technology the way they do.

Paying to watch online

I am stuck at work tonight, and decided to find out how to watch the game Barcelona – Chelsea. First I tried to use the Myp2p.eu and installing different clients, like Sopcast, to see what worked. But being stuck at a computer at work, leaves me with little to work with – because I have no admin rights and the privilegies are low and the servers and ports are all locked up from using p2p-programs as well.

Well, I went to Viasat and their service called ViasatOnDemand which looked very promising. It works very nice, no lag at all! It cost me around 7 dollars. Some might say that was cheap – I thought it was an allround OK price, thinking it was only one game I opted to watch. What surprised me was the commercials I had to watch – after I paid for the service. I thought that was a bit of a downer. But again, no problem hooking it up – easy registering and just one click and I was in. You have to have Windows Media Player (urk) version 10, no less.

Well, now I look forward to the game, and tomorrow when Arsenal meets United. Hope to see Barca and United in the finals in Champions Leauge.

The ViasatOnDemand also has films and other sports events to offer. You might wanna check that out as well – and if you buy a movie – it will be available for you through 24 hours.

Get mobile

Don`t you just hate the fact that everytime you use your laptop, you have to sit? I am just too afraid of missing important surfing or e-mailing time if I should go for a walk. Man has landed on the moon, and yet we have to sit down and be stationary around our laptops? Luckily, someone is thinking of you and me.

Connect-A-Desk lets you carry your laptop on a platform, with straps around your neck and back. If I had the money, I could write a blog entry while I walk and look for neighbour`s open networks. This freedom is worth 35 bucks.
